Site1--> ServerDCExch1------ This server is a DC,hub/client access/mailbox server. Site2--> ServerDCSite2 ----- DC for Site2 ServerExch2 ----- server is NOT a DC, IS hub/client access/Mailbox/UM Server. EdgeServerSite2 ------- ServerExch2 is subscribed to EdgeServerSite2 All mail flows send/receive within the organization Internet mail flows send/receive from mailboxes on ServerExch2 (site 2) Internet mail flows INTO mailboxes on ServerDCExch1 (site1) PROBLEM: Internet mail cannot flout OUT to the Internet from ServerDCExch1 (site 1) I don't understand how Exchange can route Internet mail from the internet through the edge server, to Server Exch2, and then to ServerDCExch1 ---- AND NOT be able to route it in the other direction. I am currently baffled on this and would appreciate any help. As always, if I solve this on my own, I will post here. -Barry

Sorry, I had not posted my solution which I figured out myself. TO answer your question, correct, ServerDCExch1 has no Edge Subscription. My Prior Related problem with routing messages between hub servers was due to the FQDNs on the HUB receive connectors must be the FQDN of the actual HUB server. I had changed those to be "mail.mydomain.com" thinking it may have some interaction with the outside world. However, that obviously is not the thing to do if you want mail to route between Hub Servers (although it works fine as long as there is no other Exchange Server where messages need to be routed-Duh). THE ACTUAL PROBLEM IN THIS THREAD was due to the fact that the 2 hub servers were using 2 different Domain Controllers for the ACtive Directory Configuration of Exchange. When I forced immediate replication of Active Directory so that both HUB servers were using the same configuration, the messages route fine. So the fact that mail was routing rom the internet to ServerDCExch1 was because the Server subscribed to Edge was using the correct configuration so it was able to route mail. ServerDCExch1 was not using the correct configuration because it was using a different DC for Active Directory Exchange Configuration. AS soon as I forced Acitive Directory Replication - all servers began using the same "correct" configuration and all routing works fine. My original intention was to have both Hub Servers subscribe to the 1 Edge server, but the 2 Hub Servers are in different Active Directory Sites and Exchange will not allow you to subscribe Hub Servers from different sites to the same Edge Server. Since I do NOT want to waste another server for Edge as we are a small organization, I just allow the messages to route from the remote site/Hub to our main site and then to/from the Edge/Internet. It's working fine now. Hope this helps someone else in the future. -Barry

Did the AD replication stop for some reason (network issues or some sort of custom replication schedules only?). You may wish to monitor for errors in the event log so that your exchange does not stop. I did test that and you are correct. Infact i had the same issue when trying to install SP1 for 2007. I had to force all my ADs to replicate first before it would go on.
