wesvan -> using ISP mail server as a backup to Exchange (5.Dec.2007 4:23:24 PM)
|
I'm not sure if this is even worth setting up or not, but here is the scenario. I have set up a new Exchange 2007 server connected to a static IP. I have made the appropriate name server changes and it seems like everything is working fine. I can send and receive emails through it without errors. The ISP I am using has an email server that I can set up POP accounts on. In fact, this is the server all our employees have their accounts on currently. What I would like to do is route all mail through the Exchange server instead of using the POP accounts, however, I would like to entertain the though of having the ISP mail server queue my emails incase the exchange server looses its connection to the Internet. My DNS configuration has been set up with two MX records which are in the order of Exchange first, and the ISP mail server second. I have tested the system to see what happens if the exchange server goes off line, and the ISP mail server does in fact collect the email intended for a user into its queue. I am able to set up a POP connection in Outlook to “get” email from the ISP mail account, however, I would like to set things up so the ISP mail server simply “holds” onto the mail until the Exchange server is running again, then have Exchange “pull” the email in, and route it to the appropriate email address from within the Exchange server. Is something like that feasible? If so, where do I start? Thanks in advance for any help on this subject.
