CCR failover does not work - 10.Dec.2007 2:16:43 PM

I have a 2-node CCR Exch 2007 setup and all seemed to be working until I migrated several mailboxes from the existing E2K03 server to the new E2K07 environment.  At this point it seemed everything was still working until I tried to fail over the cluster.  When I run Move-ClusteredMailboxServer cmdlet, I get the following error:

Move-ClusteredMailboxServer : Continuous replication is in a failed, seeding, or suspended state on 'CCR-Cluster\First Storage Group'. Move-ClusteredMailboxServer cannot be performed if one or more of the server's storage group copies are in failed, seeding or suspended states.
At line:1 char:28
+ move-clusteredmailboxserver  <<<< -identity: ccr-cluster -targetmachine: JFKC
-Mailbox2

I then ran Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus and the result is:

Name                  SummaryCopySt CopyQueueLeng ReplayQueueLLastInspecte
                               atus                  th                       ength              dLogTime
----                      -------------      -------------        ------------      ------------
First Storage Group       Failed        40165                   0
Second Storage Group      Failed        9527                 0

So, I then tried to run Update-StorageGroupCopy -Identity: JFKC-Mailbox2\First Storage Group and Suspend-StorageGroupCopy -Identity: JFKC-Mailbox2\First Storage Group and in both cases I get the following error:

Update-StorageGroupCopy : The operation could not be performed because object 'JFKC-Mailbox2\First Storage Group' could not be found on domain controller 'jfkc-dc2.kennedy-center.org'.
At line:1 char:24
+ update-storagegroupcopy  <<<< -Identity: "JFKC-Mailbox2\First Storage Group" -deleteexistingfiles

I am not sure what name Exchange is looking for.  The server is the passive node and First Storage Group is the name of the 1st storage group.  I assume that I am imputting the wrong information, but I don't know what is should be.  Any help will be appreciated.  I need to rectify this before I migrate any more mailboxes...

thanks in advance...
Johnny

First things first.

Can we assume that the CCR manual failover worked before you started migrating mail?
Can we assume that the CCR failover tested good before that?  Meaning that if you failed the heartbeat, the power, or the NIC on the active node that the passive node activated and assumed the virtual server duties correctly?

Yes, the failover functioned fine when we first built the cluster and setup CCR.  This has only happened since I migrated several mailboxes over and tried failing over to the passive node...

OK...was mail in process of being replicated when you tried it?
Or has the entire shooting match told you to take a hike?

I am not sure.  How do I tell if replication was in process at the time??

Well, your initial email regarding the get-storagegroupcopystatus indicates that there has been inconsistency.

Did you setup the transport dumpster for your projected sizing of the databases?

How many storage groups do you have?
ram?
cpu?
Network speed?
Can you even see the passive node?

One thing at a time...
First, we did setup the transport dumpster, but I am not sure what I am looking for.  Here is the output of my get-transportconfig:
ClearCategories                : True
GenerateCopyOfDSNFor           : {5.4.8, 5.4.6, 5.4.4, 5.2.4, 5.2.0, 5.1.4}
InternalSMTPServers            : {}
JournalingReportNdrTo          : <>
MaxDumpsterSizePerStorageGroup : 18MB
MaxDumpsterTime                : 7.00:00:00
MaxReceiveSize                 : unlimited
MaxRecipientEnvelopeLimit      : unlimited
MaxSendSize                    : unlimited
TLSReceiveDomainSecureList     : {}
TLSSendDomainSecureList        : {}
VerifySecureSubmitEnabled      : False
VoicemailJournalingEnabled     : True
Xexch50Enabled                 : True

There are two storage groups, the mailbox servers have 16 GB RAM, and two dual-core 3GHz Xeon processors.

When I run Get-storagegroupcopy status, I get:
Name                  SummaryCopySt CopyQueueLeng ReplayQueueLLastInspecte
                              atus                  th                       ength              dLogTime
----                      -------------      -------------        ------------      ------------
First Storage Group       Failed        40165                   0
Second Storage Group      Failed        9527                 0

When I run Suspend-storagegroupcopy -Identity JFKC-Mailbox2\First Storage Group, I get:
Suspend-StorageGroupCopy : The operation could not be performed because object 'JFKC-Mailbox2\First Storage Group' could not be found on domain controller 'jfkc-dc2.kennedy-center.org'.
At line:1 char:24
+ suspend-storagegroupcopy  <<<< -Identity: "JFKC-Mailbox2\First Storage Group"

I think my advice would be to simply start the passive node over...
BTW, I would also try to figure out why AD cannot find the storage group.
That was the impetus to asking  what the output was for

get-storagegroup | suspend-storagegroupcopy

Also, what happens if you do this:

get-storagegroup | resume-storagegroupcopy

Steps for reseeding:

To use the Exchange Management Shell to seed the passive node

1. Suspend replication for the storage group by running the following command:
Suspend-StorageGroupCopy -Identity:<Server\StorageGroupName>
2. Remove database files, all log files, and checkpoint files from the passive node. Remove *.log, *.jrs, *.chk, and the .edb files from the configured directories (logs directory, the system files directory, and the directory hosting the database file).
3. Run the following command to seed the storage group copy on the passive node:
Update-StorageGroupCopy -Identity:<Server\StorageGroupName>
4. After the Update-StorageGroupCopy command is complete and the storage group copy is resumed, verify that replication is working correctly by using the Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus cmdlet.

This was not my issue - I was trying to help - the originator never answered.
