Installed SP 1 last weekend and now the box is using 8.5GB of memory and I only have 8.   Several *32 services  are running, which I don't think were running before. Please advise.

How "big" is your installation?
(users/DB size).
Also, watch your  memory (physical) allocation over a period ( overnight is good if you have no real activity) and see if there is a gradual increase in memory alloc (AKA a memory leak).
If you stop the Topology service and restart it, (and all the dependent services it also stops and you have to restart... not when all your users are online though :)  )
Does the memory alloc decrease noticeability?
