birddog -> Exchange 2007 test install exists - want to do real install (24.Dec.2007 12:54:19 PM)

Hello Folks,

I have an existing Exchange 2003 server install.  We look to move to Exchange 2007 by way of first installing it within the Exchange 2003 environment and migrate mailboxes from 2003 to 2007.

My question is this...one of the IT guy's already did a test instlall of Exchange 2007 within the Exchange 2003 organization.  He moved his mailbox over to it.  That server has all Exchange 2007 components on it.

Can I install another Exchange 2007 installation (this time production) within the Exchange 2003 organization even though one exists?

Thanks...BirdDog

hi mate,

I am guessing that you have 2k3 box then you bought e2k7 in the production and would like to bring new exchange 2k7 box ryt?
Then answer is yes you can do it.

For more understanding on transition you can visit my blog where i given all the possibilities answer

Well what happened is this....we have a production Exch2k3 box.  The individual before me, installed Exch2k7 in the Exch2k3 environment on a VM.  Migrated his mailbox over.  And then stopped.

Now, we want to do a proper Exch2k7 deployment at a co-location facility with an edge server, CAS server and Mailbox server.

My concern is the existing Exch2k7 install that already exists.  Can I still install another Exch2k7 server while this first one still exists?

Thanks...Birdgog

hi mate,

Yes you can do it.

I would  suggest you to bring new server online with the co-exisitenc with exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 then you remove the first Exchange 2007 from the organization

here is the good document on how to remove the first exchange server from the org
