I know that this might sound daft, but does the account that you are using have the correct rights?

If you have installed one Exchange 2007 server already the account that you are logged on with needs the following permissions:

Exchange Organisation Administrator
Local Admin on the Target Exchange Server.

Cheers

The server is a DC, and i log on using the domain administrator users.

Username: administrator

I can see the Transport Service under Services, but when i start it there, it give me the same error: Access is Denied.

I can't seem to find anything in the event viewer except the same error, as i type in the earliere post.

And i have just check, the administrator user is a member of: Exchange Organization Administrators.

I have a running Exchange 2000 and a dc with windows 2000 in the domain, so i want to migrate to 2007. The Exchange 2000 is upgrade from exchange 5.5.

Hiya chap, when you say the server is a DC - is that a Windows 2000 DC or a Windows 2003 DC?
How many DC's do you have and what are their Operating Systems?

Cheers

Ok, log on with the domain admin account and try the following setup command line:

setup.com /roles:HT,CA,MB /mode:install /DC:<your 2003 DC>

Ensure that the 2003 DC is a GC

Just in case - I need to let you know that Exchange is not recommended to be installed on a DC.

Cheers

Hmmm, ok - in the root of C: there will be a folder called "Exchange Setup Logs" - can you delete that folder - then re-run setup - let it fail then is there anywhere where you can place a copy of the logs anywhere so we can have a look?

Cheers

Hiya chap, when you look at the service manager on your server do you see Exchange services installed? - also if you do, when you go to Add Remove Programs do you see an entry for Exchange Server?

Cheers

Cheers

Hello

I have try to remove the exchange completely. No i have not install Exchange 2003 on this server. Or in the domain. Only Exchange 5.5, witch now is completely remove from the domain, and also the old NT 4.0.

The process started with the following:
NT4.0 And Exchange 5.5.

I have then put a BDC to the old NT 4.0, and upgrade that to Windows 2000, and then upgrade the Exchange to 2000.
And then competely removed the Exchange 5.5, and Windows NT. So now i just have Windows 2000 with Exchange 2000 and Windows 2003 R2.

Just for testing.
I have changed the logon settings for Microsoft Exchange Transport service to administrators.
And now the services will startup just fine. But i know that the service need to be running as network service, so I have changed it back.

So it must be a problem with a security somewhere. Do you know what kind of security / permission Network Service must have to start this services?

Are you sure?
I have found a lot of other sites on the nets, how toll me that it should be running under Network Service, all others than Microsoft Exchange Transport, should be running under Local System.

I have 3 other Exchange 2007, and there are Microsoft Exchange Transport also running under Network Service.

Doh - yes you are right, I had a quick snap at my Exchange server this morning and confused it for the Transport Logs service - NETWORK SERVICE is the correct account.

Have you looked at the local security policy settings for the account - they should be:

Adjust Memory Quotas for a process
Generate Security Audits
Logon as a service
Replace a process level token

Cheers

I was missing these to:
Generate Security Audits
Replace a process level token

But it still say Error 5: Access is Denied, when i try to start the service, from the services manager.
