what is the FQDN of the virtual server for both of the servers. if they are the same, email will route through the server it originaly routed through. you may have to add the FQDN of the virtual server for server2 to the host file on all other mail servers not on server2.

The FQDN on the SMTP Virtual server has never caused a problem with outbound SMTP delivery for me in the past. It does cause an issue with inter-server traffic and having two SMTP VS on separate servers with the same FQDN should be avoided.

Simon.
