Hi.  One of my users was having problems with their calendar, so using exmerge, I backed up the mailbox, removed exchange attributes, purged it then recreated it.  I restored her data using exmerge.  So far, so good.

Her email address did not change, however, when users send messages to her, they sometimes get an NDR.  Looking in message tracking, it looks like the NDR was generated because the message was being sent to a Legacy Exchange DN instead of her regular mailbox.

I have done a complete dump of AD and couldn't find this entry anywhere.

Would this type of information be cached by outlook on the other client's pcs?

Thank you.

I am having the same problem. A VP user was transfered to another company location and his mailbox was moved from my domain to another domain using the same email address. When people use the cached address in Outlook or when they use the Reply function from a previous email of his it bounces as undeliverable and gives my domain server as the location. When they type in his email address or use the GAL, mail is delivered normally. I tried to create an alias on my domain to forward his emails, but Exchange would not allow me to create a user with the same email address as exists on the other domain. We really need to find a way to forward the emails coming to my domain to the other domain, and soon.

Thank you.

I called Microsoft, but they weren't much help.  I ended up using message tracking and verified that all of the NDRs were being sent to the same Legacy exchange name.  Then I created an X.500 address with the Legacy name.  Now everyhting is working.

It's really a pretty crappy workaround, but it made my phone stop ringing.

Thanks for the quick reply.

In my case, there is not a legacy exhcange name. We are using the same email address, user@company.com , we just physically moved his mailbox from my domain to the domain at his new location. When I tried to add his email address back into our domain for forwarding I got this error msg:

Microsoft Active Directory - Exchange Extension
This email address already exists in this organization.
ID no: c10312e7

Thank you.
