I am running into an error on a new workstation that I have recently installed.  When I configure the pc for this user to use the exchange configuration for outlook in cached mode I get the following error:

Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed.  An object could not be found.'

If I configure the pc without the cached mode set, the user can send and receive emails but will get the same error if he hits the send receive option in outlook.  From researching this issue and trying this on multiple PCs, the issue appears to be that exchange is trying to send over the .ost file and it has become corrupted.  I have searched google and other sources to see if I can get a resolution to this issue, but have yet to find one.  I want to find out if there is a way to validate that the file has become corrupted and if so, how to fix the issue.

I don't know where you have found the diagnosis about the OST file from. The error code means "cannot find" and usually it is related to the Offline Address Book. You need to look in the sync log to see what element it is failing on.

Here is the Sync Log off of Outlook:

9:30:17 The client operation failed.

I went to the URL mentioned above and found that it is no longer active.  I have done some searching on google and it appears that most of the posts are regarding exchange 2000 with outlook XP.  The recommendation that I have found is : Of course!

Presuming you can still open his OST file in its original Outlook profile
(do this offline....disconnect his network cable first), immediately export
all the data to PST to make sure you don't lose anything.

Then set up a new mail profile for him without cached mode enabled, and make
sure it looks OK....enable cached mode and see whether *that* looks all
right. He or you will then need to open the PST file and copy in whatever is
in there, that isn't in his mailbox.
Would the same fix work for Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003.

Hiya, assuming that it is an OST issue - have you considered converting the OST to a PST http://hellomate.typepad.com/exchange/2003/07/ost_to_pst.html (tool located on the link supplied) to recover data and then blow away the OST?

Just a thought,

Cheers

A

The first thing with Outlook issues is to know if the problem follows the user to another machine. The error you are getting is not the normal problem that generates this error code.

Do you know if it only affects one user, or more than one?

Simon.

If this is a single point issue, please directly create a new Outlook file for him to solve it.
