Hi,

I don't find the tool or the cmd to know how many CAL are in use (and max) on my Exchange 2007 server.

Can anybody help on this?

Thanks

Nico

Step 1.  Find your license agreement.
Step 2.  Find the line that says you purchased xx Exchange 2007 User Std CALs.
Step 3.  Find the line that says you purchased xx Exchange 2007 User Ent CALs.
Step 4.  Add them up.
Step 5.  Determine how many active mail accounts and resource accounts you have in your Exchange.
Step 6.  Subtract step 5 from step 4 (sounds like an IRS form, yes?).
Step 7.  Contemplate the legal issues if the result of Step 6 indicates you need more licenses.

We'll cover the difference between Ent and Std CALs later.

Hi John,

The ting is that we have less than 10 users using outlook to connect to the exchange server (including 3 via POP3), but about 40 that occasionaly connect trought OWA.

I must admit that we don't have 50 CAL now and that Exchange don't complain... I guess this is because number of concurrent access stay below our number of CAL, and that's what i wanted to know... how many maximum concurent access do i have on my exchange server?

Count the number of Mailboxes you have and that is how many CAL's are in use. Exchanges CAL's are different from Servers CAL's as they are not concurrent access. If you have a mailbox created for someone then Microsoft considers that a Exchange CAL.

As I know...and have touched lately... that you can't know how many Exchange Cal are still remaining...you can add unlimited mailboxes to your exchange and all can simultaneously log in to the mailbox server (Outlook anywhere, OWA, Legacy pop3...).
Answer to your question... do some classical MATH :D
(Number of puchased Exchange CAL - Number of Active Mailboxes = XXX)
Regards,
