I am completely new to Exchange, I've never set up or administered a server. My company has now decided they want to use Exchange (we've been using Mailbeamer since before I started here) and I was the lucky person chosen to install and set up the server. I have no idea where to even start, I have the book "Exchange Server 2007 - A Beginner's Guide", but it seems to be a beginners guide to 2007, and assumes you have prior Exchange experience. The server itself is all set up with a domain and everything. I will be adding about 5 .com addresses to the accepted domains and I have to clue how to get those properly configured on the hosting end or the Exchange end. Basically, I just need a good meat and potatoes install and configure guide. Links to threads, recommended books, anything would be extremely helpful. Oh, and they want it set up by Friday. Haha. Any help would be amazing, thank you!

Oh, and I've kind of skimmed through TwoJ's install guide.

I don't know of a single Exchange book in print today that does not assume you have prior knowledge of Exchange. If you really are this inexperienced in Exchange then you must absolutley seek external assistance to guide you through the basics and help you understand both the fundamentals and the more advanced tasks and configurations.

I understand the basic fundamentals of how everything works and the install seems simple enough. If I figured out Mailbeamer, I'm sure I could figure Exchange out. Is there any book that you would recommend?

Yeah, this one: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Exchange-Server-2007-Implementation/dp/0470187417/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208370944&sr=8-2 is probably something you should have a look at.

Should I try using TwoJ's install guide as well? It makes sense when I read it, I just wanted to know if there was something a little more in depth.

I wouldn't.
Read it, understand it, figure out what you don't understand and then get the book to let you fill in the gaps.
The post is a few hundred words and you need to understand the product in way more than something so small will help you with.

Thank you so much for all of your help. Do you see this as being something I can accomplish by Friday night? Or should I give my bosses a longer time frame?

I had never even seen Exchange and I used this book : http://www.amazon.com/Cheat-Configuring-Exchange-Server-2007/dp/1597491373/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208511143&sr=8-1

Read it front to back then again - I then used the Search function on this site for the rest

I've got to the point where I can send/receive local email! This is a big step for me, I would hope. So now I just need to be able to send/receive outside email. Right now, if I can send to an outside address, I'll be happy.
