Hello,

I am in the proccess of performing a Exchange 2003 SP2 to Exchange 2007 SP1
transition. During the initial installation all the prereq check passed but
during the installation of Client Access Role, it failed with the following
error message:

An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory
'IIS://es2.mindlinreg.com/W3SVC/1/ROOT/owa' on 'ES2'.

Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154
(REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))

The event viewer showed this error as Exchange setup error with event ID
1002.

The server that I'm trying to install Exchange 2007 SP1 on is a brand new
Windows 2003 R2 X64 with the latest service pack and updates, IIS installed
with ASP.NET 2 SP1.

I then was told to perform the follow:

1. Remove failed installation of Exchange 2007 SP1
2. Remove .net Framework 2.0 & IIS6
3. Reinstall .net Framework 2.0
4. Reinstall IIS6
5. Run Exchange 2007 SP1 setup again

I ran Exchange 2007 setup again and recieved a same type of error but addressed at a different location please see below:

Please note the different Exception error from the orignal one.

I am absolutely stuck and have no clue what to do next it would be most greatful if you guys can point me to the right direction.
