Any thoughts as to why when a user on one exchange server sends an email with a few word documents attached (total size around 4 MB) to a bunch of recipients some receive a winmail.dat attachment instead?  We have 4 exchange servers.  The sender is on server #3 and recipients who successfully receive the attachments are on servers 1, 2 and 3 and those who do not are on server #4.  Our global message size limit is 10 MB.  I read through http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Set-Size-Limits-Messages.html and can't see anything different about server #4.

The user is sending out messages in Rich Text Format.  Use your favorite search engine to look up "winmail.dat" and you'll find several articles about this.

If that were the issue then it shouldn't have gone through on ANY server, correct?

That's usually our first troubleshooting step is trying different message formats although I wasn't personally with the client during the initial troubleshooting.  It was escalated to me when there was no reasonable answer to the problem.

When she sends the same email out today it goes through fine and I haven't made any changes to the servers so I'm puzzled.
