racalvert -> Decommissioning Exchange 2003 Servers and Restores (3.Jun.2008 3:31:18 PM)
|
Hello all, hope this day finds you well. I'm a bit of an Exchange rookie, so please excuse my question if it seems silly. I've searched high and low for a definitive answer, but I've yet to find one. Perhaps I just haven't used the right search terms. I am in the process of standing up new Exchange servers to replace our old hardware. I'm about 99% finished with mailbox moves, public folder changes, etc. and I am trying to tie up all of the loose ends so this hardware can be removed/repurposed. While practicing with restores and the RSG, it hit me that when I choose a database to be recovered, most likely the OLD databases won't be a choice once the old servers are decommissioned. So my question is... will I be able to restore from backups that were taken against the servers I am about to decom? If that answer is 'no', I guess I will need to maintain the old servers for as long as I need to do restores from that data? Sincerest thanks for any insight here. :) -Alan
