Hi All,

I am trying to get the Email to list fucntion woking in MOSS2007...You may ask why I post here? Well when I mail mylist@myinternal.com (this is my internal domain name and not my external email domain name) the email gets routed externally which of course eventually bounces.

So what I have done so far is
  1. Set an MX record on my internal DNS server for host.myinternal.com- This didnt work. Email still being routed externally
  2. Created a new SMTP connector in my routing group (we have multiple) for the domain of myinternal.com and added a smart host for the MOSS2007 server (this is where it should get delivered).

My emails are still going externally. I do have an outbound SMTP connector for the address space of * with a cost of 1. Is this what is causing the problem? If so how would you recommend I change it.

What I dont want to do is alter in anyway the flow of exsisting emails.

Many Thanks
Russell

Is myinternal.com defined in a Recipient Policy, and have you configured Exchange to act authoritatively?

In other words, if you open the properties of the Recipient Policy in which you've defined myinternal.com, highlight it and click Edit, is the checkbox "This Exchange Organization is responsible for all mail delivery to this address" checked?

Hi Thanks for the swift response.

I have a number of recipiant policies set. The one containing @myinternal.com is set in the Default policy as the lowest priority and has the check box set with "This Exchange Organization is responsible for .....blah"

If Exchange thinks a domain is part of its Organization, it won't check DNS.  Therefore setting MX records for internal domains doesn't have any effect.

Did the internal messaging ever function correctly?  If so, what has changed since then?

The fact that internal messages are being routed externally indicates that Exchange/AD thinks it isn't part of your organization, or that you are routing everything externally.  Do you have a smarthost defined in your Default SMTP Virtual Server?

Hi No its never worked as I have had the joyful task of migrating sps 2003 to moss2007., so now I am trying to get this part working.

The default SMTP virtual server does not have a Smart Host set. My outbound SMTP connector in my routing group does though- this routes * address space to a SMTP box in my DMZ.

Thanks

If you start a new message in Outlook and enter name@myinternal.com as the recipient then select Check Names, does it resolve to an AD object?

If not, how many DCs, GCs, and Exchange servers are in your environment?

Hi Yes it resolves it without any issues. The only thing to note is that the primary smtp addy is listname@servername.myinternal.com there is a secondary addy for listname@myinternal.com could it be that which is causing issues?
