raym -> Moving Exchange 2007 to new hardware (13.Jun.2008 9:06:21 AM)

Hello,
I am in the process of setting up a new server to move my Exchange 2007 installation to.  I had already migrated from Exchange 2003 to my present 2007 server and my 2003 is still running for other things it currently handles.  Anyway, the server I had set up Exchange 2007 turned out to be a lemon and was locking up and other things.
I want to basically transfer everything on my existing 2007 server to the new one.  In 2003 this was easily done by installing another Exchange 2003 server into the organization and moving the mailboxes.  Is it still this way for 2007?
Also, the new server will have a different name than the old one, I found some articles but they were about moving to new hardware with the same name.  I am going to set it up with a different name because of naming issues with the first one.
I really just wanted to know if there would be any conflicts or anything because I plan to set the new server up with the same roles as the first one.

Thanks,
Ray Minette

hi mate,

You can bring another server into the org.
move the mailbox and public folder
create a connector (send connector) and configure mx record.

note : assuming already you have exchange 2003 and exchange 2007 and you are planning to bring new exchange 2007 server.

If you are planning to do a transition from exchange 2003 to exchange 2007 there is lots of task to be take care.

I already migrated the mailboxes from the 2003 server.  I am planning to do a typical install of 2007 on the new server, just like I did on the old server.  I am only running a 2007 single server scenario.  Thanks for the reply.

As i told not much things you need to worry.
just bring the new server and then install it.

Ok, I have the setup running now.  One more question, setup would not let me enable Legacy Outlook support because it was on the first server.  How do I move the Legacy Outlook support to the second server?  I mostly have Outlook 2003 clients with a few Outlook 2007 clients.  Thanks again.

hi mate,

If it is not asking for outlook 2003.
1. Create a new public folder store.
2. Connect the new public folder store to exiting mailbox store that host users mailboxes.
3. Use "Configure Offline Address Book (OAB) Distribution for Outlook 2003 and earlier clients" wizard in Exchange 2007 Console, to enable Offline Address Book (OAB) Distribution for Outlook 2003 and earlier clients

Hi Ismail,
Where is the Wizard?  I can't seem to find it.  Also, I am trying to remove Exchange from the first server, but I can't delete the public folders.  I have done the commands to move replications, but I still get the message that it still contains replicas.  When I run the Get-PublicFolderStatistics for the server, it still lists globalevents, internal, OWAScratchpad and StoreEvents.  Why won't these remove?  Thanks

hi mate,

which version of Exchange 2007 are you using RTM or sp1?

Currently are you replicating the public folders?

Is it successful or not, or under process.

raym -> RE: Moving Exchange 2007 to new hardware (16.Jun.2008 9:23:40 AM)

I am using SP1.  There were replications to my Exchange 2003 server.  I ran the commands to move them to my new Exchange 2007 server.  Though apparently it didn't work, because the statistics show them as still there, yet I can't seem to find any error messages to reflect why.

hi mate,

First we need to resolve public folder replication.
What is the command we are using for replicaiton

raym -> RE: Moving Exchange 2007 to new hardware (16.Jun.2008 10:37:42 AM)

Hi Ismail,
The command I used was MoveAllReplicas.ps1 -Server Source_Server_Name –NewServer Target_Server_Name.  It didn't return any errors when I ran it.

Also, I was trying to view the properties of the replication in my 2003 System Manager I get the error that the operation failed because of an http error 414.  with an ID of c1030af4.
