cyberg -> Forward Emails to External Mail Server (17.Jun.2008 3:52:26 AM)

Hi all

I have a situation where a national client has a hosted exchange server at webcentral
I have setup the national head office with a SBS 2003 server to cater for the internal 5 users.  We are currently using to sbs pop3 connector to pickup only the mail for the internal users and leaving the remaining mailboxes at webcentral.

The problem is that when they send email from internal to the other external users that have the same domain, our internal server sends the internal user a NDR because that external user has no account internally.

Normally I would work around this by forcing exchange to forward all mail to our isp’s mail server for resolution, however the SBS server is behind a serviced office firewall that does not allow this.

We do have a public static address, but I cannot see anywhere in exchange where I can set it to relay messages to an external authenticated SMTP server. ( somewhere I can put in credentials)

Your  advise would be appreciated

Have you tried going to your SMPT virtual server properties to the Messages tab and adding your isp's mail server or your smarthost server name or IP address to the "forward all unresolved recipients to host" at the bottom?
