Due to various reasons, I have to install exchange 2003 on windows 2000 Standard (SP4).

Are there any compatibility issues with this combination?  I checked the system requirements at the technet.  It says I can't use the /3GB switch. I also read in TechRepublic that I can't use RPC/HTTPS and online backup up exchange datastore.  I really didn't follow the online  backup issue.

Is it possible to backup the storage groups using NTBACKUP as if exchange 2003 is running on Windows 2003 server?

Thanks

This is what I read from TechRepublic:

quote:

Online backups: Users running Exchange 2003 under Windows Server 2003 will be able to take advantage of online snapshots of the information store by utilizing the Volume Shadow Copy service. This service allows for an instantaneous backup and restore of the information store while still online. This removes a primary availability issue from previous versions of Exchange by keeping the information store available constantly and allowing for on-the-fly backups. Windows 2000 does not support the Volume Shadow Copy service.

Does this mean my storage groups will be unavailable when I use NT backup to backup the exchange 2003 running under windows 2000 SP4?

Also you can you please varify that I can't use /3GB switch when exchange 2003 running under windows 2000 SP4?

Also, have you seen any other problem with exchange 2003 under windows 2000?

Thanks

Also to answer your question -

Does this mean my storage groups will be unavailable when I use NT backup to backup the exchange 2003 running under windows 2000 SP4?

This depends on which type of backup you are taking - most of the administrators across use Online Backup - which means that the stores are always up and running (Exchange will work continously) and the backup would also work simultaneously.
