AllenRG -> Unable to connect to SRS server using Exhcange 5.5 Admin (24.Jun.2008 9:51:15 AM)

Our Exchange 2000 environment had one Exchange 5.5 server that was used as a backup routing server.  This server died back in February and an Exchange 2000 server was put in its place.  Now, this server still sits as a ghost in that Administrative Group.  I completed all the necessary changes to the connectors, etc., but can not connect to the SRS server using Exchange 5.5 Administrator to delete the server.  When I attempt this connection I receive the following error:

A connection could not be made to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer '<server name>'.

The Microsoft Exchange Server computer does not respond.

Microsoft Exchange Directory
ID no: DS_E_COMMUNICATIONS_PROBLEM

I have tried logging in with a number of accounts that have Exchange Admin permissions, Domain Admin permissions and both.  I receive this error regardless.  Anyone have any ideas?

hi mate,

have you tried manually connecting it means open the Exchange 5.5 console and then click on it and type the server name manually.

Yes, that is how I attempted to connect.

hi mate,

I believe you want to remove the ghost entry of Exchange 5.5?

If that is the case open the ADSIEDIT and check for Exchange 5.5 server if you have then delete it and see the output (Make sure you have taken system state backup)

First confirm that SRS service is started? still you are facing a problem you can try the below steps

Take the system state backup

> Open Adsiedit and delete this CN=Microsoft DSA (if your intention is to delete the srs)
