Please bare with me as I'm know just enough to be dangerous. With the help of this site and a few other I was able to get my exchange server up and running a couple years ago. Evey thing was working fine until Comcast blocked port 25 last week and now I can't send any emails with my exchange server, but the pop connector is working so I can recieve. Here's how I had everything set up and working without issue.

exchange 2k3 on a win2k3 box
efs pop connector to get messages from my witesite email server
SMTP connector to relay to my website email server to sent outbound.

I spoke with a comcast rep and was told the port 25 is now blocked and I should be able to use port 587 for non-comcast smtp servers.

Now that I no longer have an outgoing port 25 how can I get this working again on port 587?

You were looking at the wrong thing. See: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Configuring-SMTP-Connector.html which shows you how to make a connector so that you can dump all mail to the Comcast relays. It's not on there specifically but once you create the connector you can see where you change 25 to 587 (Outbound is the clue here).

Thanks for the push in the right direction, but I'm still a little unsure how to change the ports. I created a new connector as per the tutorial you linked to. The only options I get relating to anything outbound is outbound security and it just referrs to users and passwords.

The only other place I've found anything relating to outbound and ports is under the virtual server properties and outboud connections. I tried changing that port to 587, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Yeah, my error. I'm getting rustier on Exchange 2003 as it's been a few years since I was on it operationally. The connector (linked previously) is for routing mail to the smarthost and is important because you might need to add another Exchange server later. Adding the "smarthost" (The address at the ISP) on the connector is the important thing otherwise mail between your servers will fail or be queued. What is different in 2003 is that you do need to change the Outbound Port in the SMTP VSI using the following path: SMTP VSI's Properties ---> Delivery Options --> Outbound Options which is where you were.

Once changed to 587 you need to stop/start the VSI. I would imagine that you also need to provide credentials to the ISP. Either that or the ISP hasn't set you up properly.

I got it working. Thanks Mark. I was forgetting the critical step of stopping the server between changes.

I have the same issue and I am not sure if my settings are correct, I use smtp.comcast.net as mt smarthost, I hope the is right. What did you use for a user name and password, your domain or comcast user name and password?
