sfaryu -> Distribution list SMTP questions (2.Jul.2008 2:09:35 PM)

Hi,

I have a Distribution list that people sends to it from externally.  Recently that email address has been SPAMmed and I want to remove the SMTP address.  When I did that, no one internally can send to it.  I get undeliverables when trying to send it thru the GAL in Outlook.

I thought Distribution Lists can work without SMTP addresses if used internally by users.  Why would I need to have an SMTP address to get it to work?

TIA

Tom

Recreate the SMTP address. Under the Exchange General tab of that distribution list, look for Message Restrictions. Then check, "From Authenticated users Only." This will make it so only people authenticated to your domain can email this distribution list.

Hi,

But this doesn't solve my problem of getting spammed.  Those SPAM will still hit the Exchange server, no?

I want to get rid of the SMTP addresses, is that possible?

You can't get rid of it completely, but you can change it to something that no one could possibly guess.  e.g.  ahf83hnv78.ash38ks.jssfj1@domain.com
