yl -> SCR not working (2.Jul.2008 7:34:39 PM)

Wondering if anyone can help.  I have the following CCR setup and want to enable SCR.

SiteA:  NodeA1 (active) CCR with NodeA2 (passive) --> ClusterA
SiteB:  NodeB1 (active) CCR with NodeB2 (passive) --> ClusterB

I want to enable SCR from NodeA1 (source) to NodeB2 (target) but getting an error saying NodeB2 cannot be configured as a SCR target because it has clustered mailbox server ClusterB configured.

I thought the passive node of a CCR cluster can be a target for SCR.  What am I missing?  All drive paths for the SGs are unique.

Quote from a technet article:
"The endpoint for SCR (the SCR target) can be either a standalone mailbox server or a node in a failover cluster where the Mailbox role is installed but no clustered mailbox server has been configured in the cluster."

How do you install the mailbox role only and call it a failover cluster?  On the passive node of a CCR setup, you can only select the "Passive Clustered Mailbox Role" because everything else are gray out.

Thanks in advance.

Only a standby cluster can be a target for SCR.  A standby cluster is a failover cluster with only passive nodes (one or more).  There cannot be any active nodes (e.g., there cannot be any clustered mailbox servers in the target cluster).

A failover cluster is formed when using the Windows Cluster Service.  A clustered mailbox server is created when the active clustered mailbox role is installed.  To create a standby cluster, you create a failover cluster and then install only the passive clustered mailbox role.  This adds the code needed for replication and replay, but it does not add any clustered mailbox servers.

Hope this helps.
