I am getting "Unable to bind to the destination server in DNS" error for one domain. Here is what I have found so far.

If I do ping <domain>
Ping request cound not find host <Domain>. Please check the name and try again.

If I do ping www.<domain>
I get a good ping response.

If I do nslookup <domain>
I get:

Server: DNS server name
Address: DNS IP address

Name: <domain>

if I do nslookup www.<domain>
I get the Name, address, and aliases of the <domain>

if I do
nslookup
set type=mx
<domain>

I get six MX records for the <domain>

If I do telnet <domain> 25
I get connect failed.

If I telnet <MX RECORD SERVER> 25
then I get in.

how can I email this domain from my exchange server and why might it not be working? It seems as if it has all the info it needs.

When you used NSLookup and set the type to MX, you said you got six records returned.

If you are taking the lowest-valued record and are attempting the Telnet to it using port 25 and that works, the recipient system would appear to be functioning properly (provided you did all this on your outbound Exchange server).

First, I'd use the Troubleshooting Assistant (ExTRA) to see if it can tell me anything more.

Second, check your SMTP log to verify why the communication is failing.

Third, I'd try flushing the DNS cache to make sure you aren't using outdated information.

Fourth, I'd test sending a message from an external account (e.g. gmail or yahoo) to see if that succeeds.

Ah, thanks for the reply. It turns out that this email is going out to multiple recipients.
and it is failing on an address that looks like

user@subdomain.domain.com

and when I check the MX records for the subdomain.domain.com I get not found. Would that mean that the email address is out dated and can't be used any more?

Also, this is sitting in the Exchange queue but this message was sent to many recipients. Since one address is causing the email to sit in queue, that surely means that the other email recipients with working addresses would have gotten this email already? What would happen if I right click and remove this email with NDR? Would it tell the sender that the email was not delivered just to one address?

It would appear that way.

It should be as you describe, but you can verify by checking your SMTP log to see if the message was delivered to the other recipients.
