patfee -> webmail / activesync and ssl (3.Jul.2008 9:47:27 AM)

Hi,

how could i achieve the following "setup" on the same server (2003 with exchange 2003):
1- Website - open for anonymous
2- Webmail - accessable throug ssl
3- Active Sync through internet- accessable throug ssl

Initially i enabled ssl for the exchange folder only and 1 and 2 worked fluently, but i was unable to activesync my wm6 device. This required to disable the ssl option in the exchange folder.

Alhough the webmail works using https, it is also accessable though normal http

is there a resolution for this? or is it not important providing is log into webmail through ssl (https)?

thanks
Patrick

Search for MS KB817379 .  You will need to disable SSL on Exchange, follow the described procedure, then you can re-enable SSL.

Someone else who has confused the setting "require SSL" as something that enables and disables SSL. It is not the case. You can have SSL on a web server without enabling the require SSL setting.
If you want to use the require SSL option, then 817379 is the article to read, except I find it doesn't always work. I have my own version here: http://www.amset.info/exchange/mobile-85010014.asp

Personally I don't recommend having a public web site on the Exchange server, as I consider it a security risk. Plus most office type internet connections don't have enough bandwidth to really host a public web site. With the cost of hosting measured in single figures a year, it doesn't make sense to try and host it yourself.

Simon.
