Hello,

The company of our CEO purcahsed the blackberry curve 8130 and now he wants to setup the backberry enterprise server to receive corporate email on his blackberry.  Currently the company does not have any additional servers to install the blackberry enterprise server on. Can I use a Dell Desktop to install windows server 2003 on it and use to host the blackberry enterprise server?

Thanks,
Mazen

You can install BES on any machine that supports the hardware and software requirements.  Of course installing it on anything less than server class hardware is never recommend for the lack of fault tolerance that desktops have.  Is there an initiative to have more BB users in the future?  If so then definitely invest in an entry level server.  If not you can probably get away with installing it on a desktop class system

I have deployed Blackberry on standard desktops in the past with little problems - up to about 25- 30 users. I have also used virtual machines for it as well - BES is well suited to VM. However be warned that Blackberry user has a habit of spreading quickly, so look at what numbers you might end up with and at least have a plan in the back of your mind in case the numbers shoot up quickly.

Simon.
