Hi, I am building a Single Exchange Server on Windows 2003 Server x64 R2. AD, DNS, DHCP is also installed on it. Using article http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/migration-deployment/configuring-mail-flow-single-exchange-server-2007.html In Step Six (Setting up the Receive Connector) i get the following error when trying to change the FQDN to external Exchange name instead of the internal exchange name and domain. ie from server.xxx.co.uk to mail.xxx.co.uk -------------------------------------------------------- Microsoft Exchange Error -------------------------------------------------------- The following error(s) occurred while saving changes: set-receiveconnector Failed Error: When the AuthMechanism parameter on a Receive connector is set to the value ExchangeServer, you must set the FQDN parameter on the Receive connector to one of the following values: the FQDN of the transport server "SERVER.xxxx.co.uk", the NetBIOS name of the transport server "SERVER", or $null. Any ideas? TIA.

That article is pre SP1 and should be updated. The behaviour was changed in SP1 which means you cannot change the FQDN on the receive connector to anything other than the names the error message states. Simon.

Thanks for the reply. Will this cause an issue? Do i need to do anything then? my mx record is pointing to mail.xxxxx.co.uk where my exchange server internally is called server.xxxx.co.uk.

Whether it will cause an issue or not doesn't matter as you cannot change it. However it is for INBOUND email only, so it has no effect on email delivery. Simon.

I was able to make it work with the name I wanted it to use... In the default port 25 receive connector I disabled / unchecked... Exchange Server Auth Externally Secured Once those were unchecked I was able to set the FQDN to mail.host.com no problem I am testing this to verify whether it is okay but so far it seems okay.. Next test is to verify message headers...Yup.. much better... mail from mail.host.com not SRVname.internaldomain.local ... this should help loads... hopefully it still receives mail...LOL
