Hi Exchange Gurus! We have two sites, each with a 2003exchange server running. I just recently installed ex2007 at one of the sites and added a group connector to the 03 at the same site. Using test accounts on the 07 server i have been able to verify mail flow both internally and externally from all users to all mailboxes apart from one occasion. When sending an email from a user with a 03 mailbox to a user at the same site with an 07 mailbox the message is never delivered. I looked in the ESM message tracking and realised it was not getting past the Categorizer. I enabled diagnosis logging on the 03 server and realised i was getting SMTP errors each time i tryed to send a test email. It seems in the event viewer the FROM address is emtpy, or only contains a <m>. This is strange no? (refer to pic) I send other test emails from this mailbox to external users and the proper myname@mydomain.com appears in the from field so this only occurs when i am sending email to a user on the 07exch server. I have attached some pictures as i know you all love pics. And will make my explaination a log clearer. http://img257.imageshack.us/my.php?image=esmcb0.jpg http://img257.imageshack.us/my.php?image=smtperrorfd3.jpg Hugelyyyy!!! Appreciated :) Mike

Categorizer is where AV and Antispam does its thing, so that is the first place I would look. Also ensure that you do not have a smart host set on the SMTP virtual server or any restrictions on the SMTP virtual server, including authentication settings. Simon.

Thanks for your reply Sembee :) Currently all Spam filtering is provided by our ISP. We use Sophos agents to manage AV on the servers however this is unlikely to be causing any issue when i am sending plain text test messages. I have triple checked all SMTP VS settings, there is no Smart hosts and authentication is all set to anonymous. The thing is when i send a test email to the VCSX (exch07) mailbox from the AJE(03exch) mailbox it arrives fine. And it has to go via the CSE (03exch) server. So if mail is able to be routed to the CSE server and end up at the VCSX server with no probs how come mail originating at CSE dosent go to the VCSX. Is strange. (my image above might make the server topology more clearer) The only thing i have been able to track down is that SMTP error in the event viewer which seems to indicate that any emails sent to the 07mailbox for some reason have a non existence FROM address field. But why is the FROM field changing when it is sending email to an 07 server and not an 03 or external..... I appreciate any ideas.... Kind rgds Mike

Ive done some extra playing around and troubleshooting and ive realised that all messages sent from the CSE2003 server have thier MAIL FROM field altered, or at least they dont reference the correct address. When i send an email from say mike@Company.com they come up in the application log with an smtp error saying the email is m@company.com. Likewise if it comes from John@co it will come up with j@co.... strange.... For some reason the AJE2003 server has no issues accepting these incorrect addresses however 07 keeps replying with invalid address errors causing email to not get delivered. Error from 07 exchange: This is an SMTP protocol error log for virtual server ID 1, connection # 322. The remote host 'Server07.domain.com', responded to the SMTP command 'mail' with '501 5.1.7 Invalid address'. The full command sent was 'MAIL FROM:<g> '. This will probably cause the connection to Fail. I greatly appreciate any help M
