Here's the scenario. I have a Exchange 2007 up and running successfully. I'm sending and receiving e-mail through the Hub Transport server, there is no Edge server. There is no problem with my configuration, but there is an issue with Read receipts from another company that is bothering me. It appears to be a configuration problem on the e-mail server of the other company, but I'd like to see if we can get a workaround for what appears to be an error on their end. We can send and receive e-mail fine from domain abc.com (the other company), but when abc.com sends an e-mail with a read receipt attached it wants to send the recipt back to what appears to be it's internal domain address; let's say 123.xyz.com (what's interesting is that reply to address's are fine). I can nslookup the MX record for abc.com and it shows up, but there is no MX record for 123.xyz.com. And I have reason to believe that the address that pops up for abc.com is a firewall or gateway and not the actual e-mail server. Now on to the question. Ive tried creating a custom send connector with the following settings: Address Space = 123.xyz.com Netowork = Route mail through smart host, I've tried the domain name abc.com, mail.abc.com, and the IP from the MX lookup. Source Server = mail.ourcompany.com Is there something that I'm missing? I understand that this might not be possible due to the possible firewall or gateway. Is there a better (or I should say right) way to create a custom send connector? or somehow in DNS to have any read recipt (or e-mail for that matter) sent to the abc.com domain vs 123.xyz.com? Thanks for the help, Jon

Any number of reasons why this couldn't work - the main one being that their server may not be set to allow email messages for that internal domain. You haven't said what the remote side is, but really this is their problem, not yours. Also, read receipts are system messages, so are handled in a slightly different way to regular email messages, which could also be causing a problem. Simon.

ORIGINAL: Sembee Any number of reasons why this couldn't work - the main one being that their server may not be set to allow email messages for that internal domain. I do know that internally, they can use either johnd@abc.com or johnd@123.xyz.com and this works fine. It's jsut we can't send back the read receipts from our e-mail server to johnd@123.xyz.com because there is no MX record for 123.xyz.com. That's why I thought if I could re-route the e-mail to the abc.com it might work. Anyway, I think that you are correct in stating that it's their issue with their server not accepting incoming connections and that there's nothing I can do about it from our end. Thanks for the reply.
