Hi,

This is unusual request that my boss made to me.  I am not sure how to phrase it so here it goes.

My boss would like to restrict e-mails in to his Inbox to only those users (e-mail addresses) he has approved. Anyone else (from outside the domain) that send him e-mails will get an auto responder message saying that message was rejected and if you would like to be added to the approved list please reply with following information and we will let you know"

My boss then would have to decide yes or no and have the system add to approve list if yes or let user no its rejected if its no.

Any ideas?

Paresh.

Hi,

The best option for you is to implement gray listing. This is not a standard feature in Exchange but can be added by several other software packages/appliances:

- Policy Patrol
- Fortimail

The following article describes gray listing very well and also the do's and dont's:

Hi Johan,

Thanks for the good information. I have gone through it and it comes close to what my boss (CEO) looking for.  But he is not necessary looking for anti-spam as much as limit the amount of e-mails he gets to only those in the approved list and way to manage the approved list easily as e-mails come in.

If I have to find someone to do custom development do you recommend any particular book?  How does one do customization in Exchange 2007?  I assume in .NET platform?
