Hi,

I want to deploy exchange 2007 and want this scenario --->

mailbox, Hub transport role on one server (its domain controler)
client access role on another server (now this server should be part of domain or not ??????)
i will deploy edge transport role on another server ( I know how to do that)

Please guide me for the second one. How can i do that. As when i try it by connecting 2003 server to domain then i found that i am not able to access the same computer by rdp using public ip and also default website is not running..

Not recommended to have any exchange server role on a domain controller, you need to have this in a member server because DC and exchange both are critical

client access role on another server (now this server should be part of domain or not ??????)
Client access server should be in the domain.

i will deploy edge transport role on another server ( I know how to do that)

My suggestion for simple scenario.
You can have mailbox, hub & cas in one server or just mailbox in one server and hub & cas in another Server.

Edge Server will be in the dmz network aka perimeter network.

The first thing I'd say to you is that, although technically possible, installing Exchange 2007 onto a domain controller is strongly discouraged by Microsoft.  If you do this, note that changing the role from a domain controller back to a member server (or vice versa) is not supported.

And yes, the server running the CAS role must be domain-joined.

Hi,

Thanks ismail.mohammed but when i join the win2003 machine to the domain then i am not able to access the machine through rdp and also the default website that is opening prior to joining the machine to domain is also not opening now. So if i install client access role on this server will it be able to respond to owa access.

Thanks....

When we are talking about installation of exchange...
you need to have proper communication with DC\GC.
When you are not able to RDP - my first question have you enabled the RDP in the member server?
For CAS- when you install a CAS by default it will store the owa, autodiscover etc information in the IIS. After then only you can able to access.

When you are installing those roles in different server here is the sequence:
1) Install CAS
2) Install HUB
3) Install MBX
4) Install Edge (Edge can be install during anypoint)

If you are install all the roles (except edge because you can't install edge on the same server where you installing other roles) there you need to select all the roles)

Hi,

But i was able to access the server through rdp before i connected the server to domain. As many of you have suggested that i have to connect the server to domain. As far as rdp is concerned i have already enabled it..

Then you need to troubleshoot on that part - RDP is a different concern. If you can identify the cause or any error message may be that can help us.

Exchange installation is different from RDP issue

hi,

Logon to exchange server where you installed CAS...

then open the url type : https://ip address of CAS server/owa

Is it still behaving unexpectedly.

Then run exbpa tool and follow the recommendation.

If then also you have the problem, , then please past the error message you are getting and check the application log and see whether you are getting any relevant id for that issue
