We are in the process of migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. Exchange 2003 has 5 mailbox servers (clustered), 2 OWA servers in LB and 2 SMTP servers (NLB).

Our new Exchange 2007 set up with have 4 two node clusters, 2 Client Access servers for OWA, POP3, IMAP4, SMTP (using Hub transport role) and 2 Hub Transport roles for SMTP.

Now, we can access 2007 mailboxes fine using http://server/owa but when I need to access a mailbox on 2003 using it built in redirection/proxy using http://server/exchange, all I get is a 404 Page not found! Using the /owa instead says that the mailbox is not found on Exch 2007 (I know because its still on Exch 2003). Any idea why I get 404 Page not found error?

have you tried creating an A host with exchange pointing to the e2k3?

Yes, all relevant host records are recorded in DNS.
