Replying to old POP messages from exchange (Full Version)

Hello.
Im newly registed to this forum, however have used it in the past and have found it very useful.

The problem im having is i have set up exchange 2007 on a 2k3 server.
Everything seems fine with email flowing from this server.

However if a user opens an old email (recieved by POP on the old system) they are unable to reply unless they open a new email and copy and paste the contents into it.

Here is the error:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
 
      Subject:    RE: Sample Request Sent From Domain.com
      Sent: 24/10/2008 11:24
 
The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

From what i can gather its looking at the old header, and well im stumped to be honest.

When we moved the emails into exchange i just copied from their old Inbox to the new exchange inbox.

Any help would be great

Ok while trying to reply, examine the user email address and see if it is correct and examine the same in user's AD account. if both of them does not match, ther might be compatibility problem.

The email addresses are the same. He isnt trying to email someone internal but someone external.

for the first NDR, the issue is with DNS, check dns functionality using nslookup, for second error, the issue seems to be with receive connector, check if pop servers are configured correctly and if the receive connector is allowed for proper authentication.

If the user is external, try tracking the message, if it does not show any proper data, enable logging for POP3 and check, it will give solid clues.

Thanks for your reply.

POP is not used anymore, we have migrated to SMTP.
The only issues is old message that where imported into outlook. (From when they used to use pop)
Now we have the mx record pointing towards the server, and email flows fine if its new messages or messages which where recieved.
The only problem is old messages which where imported into outlook/ezxchange

 Let me know the result when the user reply to the old mail by manually typing full To e-mail without resolving it .....Are they able to send it?
