i have a freshly loaded win2k3r2 server with exchnge2k3. when trying to setup outlook from server i get the following message when trying to resolve name in setup:
Outlook could not log on. Check to make sure you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action

Any help would be appreciated. i have checked the rpc versions, all are correct

Can be any number of reasons for that message.
Did the user accounts get email addresses automatically?
If you login via OWA, can you access the account? Can you see the users in the GAL?

Simon.

What about my other questions?
Did the accounts get email addresses automatically, and can you see them in the GAL?

Simon.

not sure what you mean by getting them automatically. when i created the user in active directory i also created the email address. after a minute or two the address populated in the users properties of active directory. i have not looked at the GAL and cannot at the present as i am not in front of the server, sorry.

i manually entered the username portion of username@domain.com in active directory when creating the account if that is what you are referring to

We are both referring to the email address on the Email Addresses tab. That shows two address, one of type SMTP and one of X.400.

If those were created automatically after a few minutes then that rules out RUS as being the problem.

Is the Windows firewall or any other firewall enabled on the server?
Are you testing a client on the same network as the server?

Simon.
