I've walked into an Exchange environment and I'm not an Exchange guy. We have 2003 client and server and the problem is when you compose and email message and hit send it sits in the outbox until you refresh or until you click on the outbox. I remember this happening a long time ago back in the day of 2k Exchange I remember that there was an issue with UDP packets and the Outlook client. I can't find the article I'm looking for. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and can you direct me to an article?

You know checking Google really never crossed my mind. Come on! Really. Do you just post for the sake of posting? The links you posted were not helpful either... I'm not paying for Experts Exchange and the link to the forum here was close but it had nothing to do with UDP packets. Again, I ask the question. Does anyone remember what I'm talking about with Exchange and UDP connections to the client?

Too many hints given for searching an article for you, c'mon get serious with this. It was plain humour Mr. Exchange guy. Relax. It seems your over-reacting. Enough of all this let's get down to work. quote:

One / Few / All ? 4) Is this seen only with OL2k3 users or with OL2k / 2k2 / 2k7 ?? 5) Perform a message tracking on the server and check what time the mail hits the server ? For heaven sake run ExBPA reports.

Sorry. I just find a lot of people post for the sake of making their post numbers go up... 1) What happens if you do not hit on refresh / click on outbox - does it stay there for ever. No it will finally send. 2) If yes, check immediately using Outlook Web Access - has the message left your mailbox or still sits there. After a period of time it will send. Some times as short as 1/2 a minute but not more than 5. 3) How many users are being affected? One / Few / All? All users are affected by this. 4) Is this seen only with OL2k3 users or with OL2k / 2k2 / 2k7?? Only OL2K3 running in the environment up against a EX2K3 environment. The Exchange environment is sitting on the internal network and not in a DMZ. 5) Perform a message tracking on the server and check what time the mail hits the server? Will do

The only issue I recall relating to UDP had to do with the "You've got new mail" notifications. Exchange uses a random UDP high-port (> 1023) broadcast to inform Outlook clients that new mail has arrived. If for some reason you are not allowing those ports to reach the Outlook client (either because of network device settings, or desktop firewall settings), Outlook may not automatically request the new messages from the server (we're talking about cache mode). When you click Send, Outlook should attempt to forward the message to Exchange, unless the client is offline at the time. Outlook uses a MAPI connection, and not UDP (you normally wouldn't want an application to use a non-guaranteed connection to deliver mail).
