I have a situation where one of our child companies wants access to a Contact List that only they can see.  We don't want this 300+ Contact List in the Global Address List as Mail Contacts.

Can I create an alternate Global Address List, or a Public Folder of Contacts?

If I can't have any type of Address List or what-not without it being a Mail Contact, then fine... I just need to know if I can do this without them being Mail Contacts... being that these are external Vendors (names, phones, and email address) and such.

I've been telling these people they need another Contact solution, but need to get it confirmed before we commit to going that route.

Public Folder is the best option here. You can control who can see it, but don't have to worry about managing the content.

Although it isn't a substitute for a CRM. I tend to use Public Folders for static public contact information - so electrician, plumber, security, local phone company, gas company, council etc.

Honestly, I haven't messed with Public Folders any.  How can I setup a Public Folder for the Shared Contacts? 

I also migrated the Notes NSF Contact info (241 vendors) to a PST and then imported that into Exchange under an assumed user generic mailbox, and then shared it.  While that worked wonderfully in regards to management, it doesn't give the option to email those individuals via the Address Book.  When you open a New email, and open the Address Book, the shared contacts don't show anywhere.  I've messed with it a bit, but no joy.  I also used the Move to Folder... option, but it did just that, MOVED the contacts out of the shared contact list, subsequently removing them from everyone who accessed the shared contact list.

Create the public folder through Outlook. That allows you to create it of the correct type.
Once it has been created, copy the contacts that you have in the mailbox in to the folder.
Then set the required permissions so that the users can keep it up to date. If you don't do that then it will become out of date very quickly.

Finally to use it as an address book, in each user's Outlook, right click on the public folder and choose Properties. Then click on the Outlook Address Book tab and choose Show this folder as an Outlook Address book.
I don't know of any way to do that using a script - and I have been looking for four years.
