Hi,

I have old exchange 2003 server and new exchange 2003 server. I moved only 1 mailbox from old exchange 2003 to new exchange 2003, click on Exchange Task Wizard and choose Skip corrupted item and create a failure report. And successfully transfer to a new exchange server.

I was wondering, is it normal that i have 2 mailbox (one is in the old server, another one is in the new server ) that i just transferred ? Does it do a backup as well ?

I`m not clear on this part, can someone help me to explain ?

After migrating the mailbox, does it have a red X on it on the old server?

So far, i havent found red X on the old server after migrating, i do have red x but its only the account that i actually disabled.

I think you have fully migrated your Exchange to new hardware. Can you please shed some life on my topic. As i have to start migrating my Exchange ASAP.

Hi,

I don`t have any public folders to replicate because it is empty, i`m only concern with my mailboxes and user accounts. Later on, i need to change the ip address to my old existing exchange server and try the incoming and outgoing email from yahoo, hotmail , etc.

Do i need to install a fresh copy of MS-Exchange 2003 on new hardware. If yes, do i also need to run ForestPrep and Domain Prep on my AD again as it was runned before when i have installed old Exchange server.

Do i need to install Exchange 2003 with Deployment tools for Exchange 2003. I have already installed all the pre-requists.

I need to migrate from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2003 that is Inter-Organizational Migration to Exchange Server 2003 or i need something else ??

Yes. If you install another exchange server, that is new hardware with new exchange server, soon after you finished installing, you will see your old exchange server in your exchange system manager.

This is the part that i`m gonna try, migrate all the mailbox, shutdown old exchange, startup the new exchange.
Sorry to say, im not sure on the Inter-Organizational Migration to Exchange Server 2003 part.

On this part as well, i need to do the same thing, change the ip address, check the SMTP connectors, the OWA, SSL, services, etc. Once everything configured, i start to test the connectivity, incoming, outgoing, sending, receiving emails.

I will let u know again, if things goes smoothly, and i`m about to do this thing right now, wish me luck [:D]

Yes. If you install another exchange server, that is new hardware with new exchange server, soon after you finished installing, you will see your old exchange server in your exchange system manager.

Yes

Anyway, i just finish doing the migration testing connectivity, i got some errors, ESM failed to retrieve queues for the SMTP Virtual Server and also the X400 protocol, and also i cant rename the server name.

I need to find out the solution first what went wrong

As far as my knowledge you cant rename the server name after Exchange is installed. Same case with SQL Server

Hi,

Oh ya, when i check my DNS server this morning, i have 2 hostname with the same ip address, but i already deleted one of it, since yesterday i did make the same configuration, i guess my DNS confuse which hostname to choose :)

I need to try out next time, not now, need to find a perfect time or after office hours. Well if u still want to migrate to a new server, much more better, at least you can share your experience as well :)

I have successfully Install Exchange 2003. Both my Exchange First Storage Group are coming in System Manager.

Thing is that when i tried to configure Routing Protocols > First Routing Group > Connectors > SMTP Connector on my new server then it this changes also takes affect on my old Exchange 2003 server. What i think is that i dont need to configure Internet Mail SMTP Connector as it already exist but what if when i will be removing my old Exchange Server from my Organization.

I have created a new SMTP Connector for my new server and configured it but i am not getting a Security Tab in it as i can see Security Tab in my Old Server's SMTP Connector.

IF i try to send emails to my AD Users then all my mails are quened on Old Servers Queues and it is listed which i see First Administrative Group > Servers > New Server > Queues > oldserver.mycompany.org
Isnt this server should come in First Administrative Group > Servers > New Server > Queues > local delivery as i emailed from an account using New Exchange 2003.
 
My New Server is a member of my old server(master). Will it automatically become Master after i remove my old server for my organization.


 


Can you guide me where am i wrong now

My New Server is a member of my old server(master). Will it automatically become Master after i remove my old server for my organization.
----> when i unplugged the old server connection and put it to my new server, the new server become the master. This is the time that i tried to rename the new exchange server hostname, because i want my DNS to talk to my existing hostname in their record rather than using a new hostname, i think that is why i have 2 hostname with same ip address. I already deleted new hostname in my DNS, so there wont be any confusion in my DNS server.

By the way, did u realize that in your Internet Mail SMTP Connector, you will see your new exchange hostname server, and also the existing exchange hostname. You can add or remove any of your exchange hostname.


If you switch back to the old server and remove/unplug the cable, be sure to check your SMTP connectors, because my user complaining that they cant send their email, and keeps on bouncing back to them. Please double check your SMTP connector if this thing happen.


Now, my plan is to rename the hostname. If this thing works, then i started to test sending and receiving email, locally and outside (hotmail/gmail,etc). If there is no problem, then i start to moved all the mailbox from the old server.


So, what are your other plans now ? :)

you means to say i should modify my old SMTP Connector instead of creating a new one ??

I have created a new SMTP Connector for new Server but still i am not been able to send emails to local/external users. do i need to change anything in Virtual SMTP Connector and Internet Mail SMTP Connector. I have used newserver as my local bridgeheads in new Internet Mail SMTP Connector.

Did you mean to say i should modify my Old Internet SMTP Connector and point it towards newserver. i tried to do it but it gave me some Address Space Error.

I tried to send emails to one local and one external email address but it is still quened after 13 hours. My mails arnt bouncing back but its not sending as well. All Mails are quened in First Administrative Group > Servers > New Server > Queues > oldserver.mycompany.org. Even my postmaster emails are still there and a total of 119 emails are quened uptil now and i have sent only two emails from my newserver. I have configured my SMTP Connector the same way as i did it before 3 years when i installed my first Exchange Server.

My plan is to first test my new Exchange Server by sending and receiving emails locally and externally and then move all my mailboxes.

Did u test your SMTP ? And did u try the link ?

OK, my case , i test my SMTP, i try to send to one of my AD user, but it doesnt get through, i open ESM, and i check the queue, and i found 1 mail in the queue, so i go to this link, and i change/edit according to the link given, soon after that, the queue is gone.

MX Record entry is created automatically when i search it in DNS and is configured the sameway as shown

for SMTP Connector I am confused whether to create a new connector or modify the existing one. I have created a new SMTP Connector to test, locally i can send receive emails to other users on my new server but when i try to send emails externally then it again stucks in queue at

First Storage Group > Servers > New Server > Queue > Internet Mail SMTP Connector (Old Server) - mail.mycompany.org

What i think it should queue in cause i have created a new SMTP Connector for new server.

First Storage Group > Servers > New Server > Queue > New Server - mail.mycompany.org
 
Second thing is that my new SMTP Connector is in Retry State. Any guess ??
