Our comany has been using a Single server with Server 2000 SP4. IT also has Exchange 2003 Sp2 installed. WE purchased a new server running server 2008 64-bit. We have added the server to the domain, made it a DC, transfered all roles, moved all file shares. Everything seems to be working ok. But now we have to move exchange 2003 to the new server that will run exchange 2007 SP1. I downloaded the 3 part tutorial from this web site. I started with Part1 Setup.com /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions Setup.com /PrepareSchema Setup.com /PrepareAD Setup.com /PrepareAllDomains When I started the instal I recieved the error about single-labeled domains. I cancelled the install. Because I want to address this issue. Im assuming you can change a single-labled domain to a FQDN. However am I able to do this now that I have run these commands? Should I change this?

Yes, it's too late for you. Once you do a /PrepareAD then no more domain rename for you. All you can do is a cross-forest migration from 1 server to the other or do the below: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2008/03/26/448511.aspx Use the SP1 bits (you'll need this to install on Server 2008) and make sure your Exchange server has connectivity to the internet for the updated prerequisite check file which allows you to install in a single-label domain.

Thanks for the help.. I dont fave to format new server right? I have to transfer all the FSMO roles back to the 2000box Disconnect new server from network... Remove the DNS, DHCP roles. then run dcpromo again... Sound right?

For a cross-forest migration, yes. For the installation into your existing domain using the single label domain, no. Like I said, read the link that explains how to go about installing Exchange 2007 SP1 into the single label domain.

Do I have to reinstall the OS? OR can I just remove the DNS role and re-run dcpromo?
