Messages Stuck in Local Delivery Queue - 14.Jan.2009 10:52:25 AM
I have emails getting stuck in the local delivery queue in a retry state on my SBS 2003 SP2 w/ Exchange 2003 SP2. The emails are from one outside domain only, everything else is ok. I am not sure what to try at this point. I have no event errors pertaining to this issue.
I appreciate any and all help! Thanks

Do you have an antivirus application installed? If you do, try stopping and disabling it because i have seen issues with AV softwares that hook into SMTP or the information store causing this type of issues. Are you experiencing any apparent hardware issues?

I have Trend Net Micro installed. I am not having any hardware issues. the user that isn't receiving the emails got the last one the same day we had a power failure and I had a corrupted IIS Metabase.xml file. I will try uninstalling the AV.
Did you try forcing connection to see if it goes through ?
Is internal mailflow working fine otherwise ??
As mentioned above, try disabling the antivirus and check..
I uninstalled my AV. I have also done a Force Connection. No luck. All other mail is flowing fine. There are actually 2 domains but they are the same company. Any other Ideas?
It could be that the information store could have been damaged during the power failure. How large is the database? I would recommend performing an offlline defragmentation (ESEUTIL /D) followed by an integrity check (ISINTEG). Are the messages destined for the same recipient?

Yes they are for the same recipient. I ran ESEUTIL /D after the power failure but did not run the integrity check. This has to be done with the store unmounted correct?
Regarding isinteg.. Yes the store has to be offline when we run thar. That would remove logical corrution.Follow the article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301460/
Regarding diagnostic Loggin.. Open Exchange System Manager Expand Administrative Groups-> First Admin Group -> Server -> Right click on the server name Go to the diagnostic Logging tab. MSExchangerTransport -> On the right hand side increase the level to Maximum for all the Category.
Once we get the issue resolved, kindly remember to get this disabled to None value as it can cause your logs to fill up.
Sounds to me like the mailbox may be corrupted. Use Outlook to export the users mailbox to a PST as a backup. Disconnect the user from his mailbox and create a new mailbox for the user. Test and see if the messages are delivered properly to the new mailbox. If successful, import the PST data back into the mailbox.

Should I try running [isinteg] first? from what I've been reading this should fix the issue, if not then I can export the .pst and recreate the mailbox.
regardless, I would definitely recommend running ISINTEG since it was not run after the offline defragmentation. If that doesnt fix up the issue, then try the mailbox recreation option. Obviously the ISINTEG needs the database to be dismount (information store service MUST be started for ISINTEG to run!!) so you may need to do this off-hours. How large is the mailbox store?
