I am using a single server implementation of Exchange 2007 Standard on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, and one of my users has an issue receiving mail from one external sender. I can see the message come into SMTP in the tracking log, but there is no "Storedriver" message generated. Anti-virus and spam filtering are all occurring on a separate server in front of Exchange, so that can be ruled out. Nothing appears in the event log either. The really screwy part is that the original sender was able to forward the e-mail from his "sent items" to a different user at my organization without issue. The user that received the forwarded e-mail successfully is under the same size restrictions as the user that never received the e-mail.
Is there anywhere else I can look to figure out what prevented the message from getting to the store? What log would I need to turn up in order to try to address this in the future? Ideas?

Has the user tried checking their email using OWA and is it the same results?

Will it show up in OWA if it never hits the store?

We did check OWA and no, it is not there.

Disblae all of the rules in the local outlook client. There may be something in there causing this. Those rules also apply to your OWA because hte rules are stored on the server for each user.

If this user is the only one experiencing this, I would bet the rules are either corrupt, or a keyword is getting hit.

Also if you export the rules and re import them, for some reason, that seems to repair a corrupt rules.

if you have installed the antispam agent rules on the HT server try to loose down a lil bit the SCL and other filters, it happened with me once and eventually i figured out the the SCL was more restrictive.

also check the client's outlook maybe he have any kind of rules and also check on the juck email filters on his outlook

another test try to put the sender domain name or sender ID on the safelist and see

That would be good if it was a global issue, but from what I am hearing, it is one user.

I appreciate the replies so far, but I have a hard time with the idea that a client's Outlook rule would prevent the message from arriving at the message store at all. Does the processing of the server side version of the Outlook rules actually occur prior to the delivery of the message?

I don't believe so.

2007 has an excellent email tracking tool. Try that and that will be a big help. I have been suprised by the results in many cases. It is in the EMC at the bottom on the left nav. This might be the answer. You can try a loose filter at first, then tighten by sender and recip etc...

I will say this again though... I strongly feel that since others in the same organization can get it, that it is a local issue.  And once again, the rules seem to be the common tie since it is occuring in OWA as well as Outlook. Try removing all rules. Export them first to the desk top, then remove all and try again. You can import them again later.

Okay apparently I did not make this clear.

I RAN THE MESSAGE TRACKING TOOL. THAT IS HOW I KNOW THAT THE FIRST TIME THE MESSAGE WAS SENT THERE IS NO MESSAGE FROM "SOURCE: STOREDRIVER" WITH "EVENT ID: DELIVER" IN THE TRACKING LOG. THE SECOND TIME THE E-MAIL WAS SENT A MESSAGE FROM "SOURCE: STOREDRIVER" WITH "EVENT ID: DELIVER" DID APPEAR IN THE TRACKING LOG.

There are we clear now? [:@]
