I have an Exchange 2007 environment with a mix of outlook 2003 and 2007 clients.  We have something in our public folders called shared contacts, which is essentailly all customer and employee contact info.  This was build way before my time so I am unaware on how it was built or created. Right now all my users in 2007 clients can see all public folders plus this shared contacts thing, but my 2003 clients can only see public folders and not the contacts thing.

Is there anyway I can like extract this or use it some other way rather than Public Folders? Plus, any reason it would only work with 2007 clients and not 2003?

How did you installed first exchange server 2007? have you mentioned this switch
/enabledlegacyoutlook

Was this folders being replicated from legacy exchange server? If yes, then how was the last legacy server decommissioned? Or are they still existing?

Sharing contacts using PF is the best way. Coz you dont need to manage it. Users will simply add and modify contacts provided with proper permission.

No Switch....should i issue that switch?  Folders were being replicated from an old 2003 server, but has been taken offline. It was decom as articles told me to...replicate all public and system folders, then decom.  Everything went smooth.

Here is the troubleshooting steps.

Data I need before we proceed further.

OL Version with SP if any.
What happens when the same user profile is created on both OL 2k3 and OL2k7?
Do you see the difference?

If yes then probably you have to run setup.com /pl.

Once that is being done.

What is the status in online mode and cached mode?

If nothing works then you have to create Recovery Server in an isolated network.

Install Exchange server with Same ORG name AG name and server name.

Once this is done. Restore you PF database.

Install OL 2k3 and import only that PF contacts to a .PST folder.

Get that .pst out. Now login to production OL 2K7 and take a backup of current updated PF contact folder.

Delete it using OL 2K7.

Import the .PST using OL 2K3 update new contact if any is missing using the same OL 2K3.

I hope this should fix your problem.

Solution is quite tedious, but no way to escape since E2K3 is dead.....
