Has anyone done netbios rename in windows 2003 active directory that had exchange 2007 server installed before? I wonder what is the impact by doing so? I read some article that mention domain renaming is not supported by exchange 2007 at the moment, the fix up tool yet to be available.. but what about netbios renaming? will it require that fix up tool? Please advise....
I have read that KB before, but that mainly apply for those who like to rename the domain, especially for the case of limitation that had single domain name in the environment... I just setup a test environment to test out the netbios rename. In my test environment, it had included a test active directory (that with wrong netbios name assigned), an exchange 2007 installed on second machine and ms sql 2005 installed on third machine, both these servers are joined member in test domain...
the netbios renaming process was successful change the netbios name in above test environment and it did not cause any impact to either on exchange services or ms sql services.. all exchange services start up after restarted and so far the only thing that should take note which is service account that run on each services... will test further on the mailbox and sql database for verification...
Yesterday, I tried in lab the situation AD2003 native latet sp + exchange 2007 latest sp 1 DC 4 exchanges servers, couple member servers some ws on XP It went quite well, no hicups anywere the exchange rebooted well, only thing is that all service that are running under domain accounts need to be revconfigured. Owa was working without problems, Outlook had some mnor problems but our exchange had some 2003 left overs as the upgrade was dome by IBM and they did not decomission first and the last exchange 2003 properly.
