Hi there, I'm sorry if this e-mail end up being a little redundant, but I have searched the forums and haven't been able to come up with a clear answer. I have just completed a fresh install of EXCHANGE 2007 + SP1. The purpose of this install is to be able to setup Exchange hosting for several domains on one system, keeping each domain separate from the next. I have followed the steps presented here from Silva on how to accomplish this. http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/migration-deployment/shared-hosting-exchange-2007-part1.html http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/migration-deployment/shared-hosting-exchange-2007-part2.html http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/migration-deployment/shared-hosting-exchange-2007-part3.html Upon completion of this, I have a single domain added, and have followed all the step to keep it separate. I am going to add a 2nd domain for testing. The trouble however is when I try to get an OUTLOOK 2003/2007 client to connect to this system. When I try to connect a OUTLOOK 2003/2007 client to this system, it errors out with: "The action could not be completed. The name clould not be matched to a name in the address list." I am not doing anything fancy with the Outlook client here. It is a PC on the same subnet as the Exchange 2007 server, so there is no firewall or anything in the middle. I am not even doing RCP over HTTPS right now. (though that will be the end game goal). From everything that I have read, it would appear this is a GAL problem. However, given the multi-domain shared environment, I am not sure how to correct this. It almost seems to me that the Outlook clients need some "common" GAL that has all users on the system (not just the ones for that specific domain.) That's what I tend to believe anyway. OWA works just fine. I am able to access the account through the web, and when I look in the Global Address Book, it only shows the users within this specific domains. Telling me that the "per-domain" GAL list is functional. ActiveSync on a Windows Mobile phone even works properly, so this is specific to Outlook clients. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Chris

I too had this same problem, and I am pretty sure it has to do with the AddressbookRoots attribute. It is further outlined here: http://blogs.msexchange.org/silva/2008/05/22/exchange-shared-hosting-and-addressbookroots/ I read that link, and I removed the additional address lists from the attribute and I no longer receive this error: "The action could not be completed. The name clould not be matched to a name in the address list." However, once I try to start outlook after configuring the account settings, I now get this error: “Unable to open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to your Microsoft Exchange Server computer with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your offline folder file” I am kinda stumped by this, and if anyone can help me resolve this, I'd be most appreciative. Thanks

Hi, You all are right this problem occurs when you edit the GAL through adsi edit tool. The best way to have different GAL is through using different Mail databases. As editing it using adsi most of the time corrupt the permission on the objects due to which you will receive this error. Thanks,

Thanks Ok, just an update. I was able to resolve my secondary issue. I twas due to my VPN settings. For the originalposter, if you follow the link in my post, and remove the address lists from the attribute, it should solve your issue with the user not being found in the address list.

I thought you could only assign OAB via the database. Thanks!
