Active Sync SAN Cert - 18.May2009 9:23:44 AM

Hi all, I have searched the forum and google and cannot find an answer to my problem.

I have a self signed cert for webmail.domain.co.uk and this is working perfectly for OWA both internally and externally, I am trying to connect an iphone (and shortly a blackberry) without much success.  Could anyone please confirm that Active Sync does not work with self signed certs?  I have been trying to use my webmail cert for Active Sync, I am led to believe that this is possible?
I have some 3rd party certs purchased from Godaddy, I have not used them as I have ISA 2004 and this does not support SAN certs.
If I had 3rd party SAN certs, should the iphone use autodiscover to configure itself?  At present on my CAS server, under exchange active sync I have the https://webmail.domain.co.uk in the external URL and the default in internal URL (basically mirroring what webmail has under CAS).

Sorry for the long rambling post, I have searched everywhere for answers.  If anyone could shed light on any part of this for me I would be very gratefull.

*Edit* Exchange 2007
*Edit 2* When I say self signed cert, it was issued by my local Windows cert services.

Self signed certs will work, but you will need to import the trusted root CA cert onto the devices - or you will not be successful.

This is the one of the major reasons to have a public cert on the public facing services.
