Hi,

Today in my setup one of the mailbox stores got failed. I ran eseutil /mh for that DB and found it is dirty shutdown and it requires 2 logs files. I checked in my transaction file folder and found that 2 logs are missing.

Now i want skip these 2 files and make DB is up and running without files. What are steps i need follow now.

Your help is much appreciated

Thanks

You can only bring the database up to the point where the log files are missing; nothing beyond that point.

  • Do a backup of what you've got in the c:\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata directory.
  • use eseutil /p  to patch the database (you can get the details of parameters by entering eseutil /?)  This will only get you to the point where the missing log files started.
  • Check that the database is now clean shutdown
  • Then delete everything except the .edb and .stm files from c:\program files\exchsrvr\mdbdata and try mounting the database.

Oye msoc.dutydesk. OyDon't treat your database so rudely.

Performing /p deletes the corrupted parts of your database which requires information from those two missing log files. Sometimes, your whole database might go bad if you do that.

Why don't you check your anti-virus vault/quarantine folder for those missing logs? Possible locations where you can find em.

If you still don't find them, then go about running /p

eseutil /p "D:\Databases\db1.edb" or whatever.
Make sure that edb and stm file are in the same location.

Then run /d
eseutil /d "D:\Databases\db1.edb"

Then remove the log files in the transaction files folder, and remove the checkpoint files too, and mount-dismount the stores, and perform a ISINTEG to clear out logical corruptions

As you have seen from the fact that taking a backup and slamming the brakes on in the middle of a transaction set (i.e. twixt one backup and another) is nigh impossible and horrible to recover from.

I think it safe to assume that you have wasted more than your years salary by getting support from me and other people.

If you want more support I recommend you call someone and pay for it to get the log files to the right database backup and mount it.

Log files plays important role to bring database into clean state & bring it back into working state. Once the log files are lost then it becomes almost impossible to repair exchange database. If log files are present then use eseutil /r command to clean shutdown the database. Otherwise, repair edb file without log file via an edb repair solution (that repairs edb without log file, removes all jet engine error from database and creates new pst files)
