One of my user is having a huge outlook pst file. We use Outlook 2007. the size of that is 2.04 Gb. I have read that exchange dont allow the size of .pst file more than 2gb. but I dont know how it increased. and when I try to open the .pst file outlook says cannot open and crashes. I have tried many demo versions available online. None of them are useful. Could you help in recovering the file please and also please let me know if there are any free softwares available so that an admninistrator can get a notification if the .pst file is increasing let's say more than 1.5gig. and also please help me how to take backup and create a new .pst file.

Your .PST file has been damaged but not due to oversize because in Outlook 2007 the .PST file can grow up to 20GB. there can be some other reasons behind the file corruption. Try to repair the file using scanpst.exe, freeware from Microsoft. It may happen that scanpst.exe does not give you fruitful result or may show that the file is successfully repaired when you try to access the file, Outlook will deny it.
In that situation, you can try Kernel for Outlook to repair the damaged .PST file.
In Outlook 2007, you do not have 2 GB file size limitation. But if you are facing problems due to oversized PST files then make use of Split PST tool to reduce PST file size considerably.
