We're currently preparing a new AD domain which will be most probably Server 2008 based in which we'll install a new Exchange 2007 installation. The domain will span across 5-6 countries. The idea is that - although we have good VPN international connections - we'd have all roles installed in each country so that users would always connect locally.  It will be one forest, one domain organization (other MS and non-MS services have huge problems with inter-domain functionalities) and multiple AD sites will be established.

- HUB and CAS servers will probably reside on virtual servers and be responsible to inter-exchange of emails inside the organization as well as take care of Exchange Everywhere and ActiveSync connections
- EDGE servers will be deployed in every country in local DMZ zones
- Mailbox roles would also be installed locally (preferrably CCR clustered) and local mailboxes would be placed there in order to minimize VPN traffic

Is this the way it can (should) be installed? Is such a configuration supported and possible? I've been looking around for some more deployment scenarios but couldn't find anything like this.

Regards,
Luka

Yes, it does seem reasonable esp the bit about having all roles in all countries so that users can connect locally.

If you have a large number of users, I would recommend splitting the roles over different servers (virtual servers would work) to cut the workload.

Also, Exch 2007 will allow multiple mailbox servers or have multiple stores e.g. one store per dept if you wish to speed up disaster recovery and restores.
