hi,
i have this scenario. i have an exchange 2007 sp1 installed on the windows server 2008ee. the exchange is configured has follows
mailbox role installed on 2servers fo ccr purposes.(in the domain)
hub/cas roles installed on another server (in the domain)
edge server installed on host machine (in a workgroup).
Prior to the installation of the edge server, the hub server made use of a smarthost for routing mails to the internet.
the edgeserver has now been introduced into the exchange infrastructure, an edge subscription has been done, edge sync was successful and the send connectors are visible on the edge server.a telnet to the hub server on port 25 is responding fine, a telnet from the hub server to the edge on ports 25,50636 and 50389 is ok too.
the edge server uses one nic and its ip is nated to a public ip through a pix firewall cisco 515e.
however, messages do not rout through the edge server but still go through only the smart host that had been configured before the edge server role was deployed.
also, doing a diagnostics test on the mx record created to point to the edge server returns an error"A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 25.
please can anyone help out?

Disable the mail guard or smtp proxy in Cisco.
