I have been trying to get my Treo to sync with our exchange server, it seems to be authenticating but always fails to actually log in. I ran the remote connectivity analyser at testexchangeconnectivity.com, and it said everything was good until it got to the bottom and failed. Resulting error was:

Attempting an Activesync session with server
Errors were encountered while testing the ActiveSync session
 Test Steps
Attempting to send OPTIONS command to server
Testing the OPTIONS command failed. See Additional Details for more info

 Additional Details
Could not find MS-Server-ActiveSync and MS-ASProtocolVersions header. Headers received were: Allow: OPTIONS, TRACE, GET, HEAD
Public: OPTIONS, TRACE, GET, HEAD, POST
Content-Length: 0
Date: Fri, 28 Aug 2009 19:37:53 GMT
Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0
X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

The "more help" link it gives suggests its a firewall issue, but my required ports are open according to the rest of the analyser. Can anyone elaborate more on what this OPTIONS Verb is?

Hi,

Did you check the IIS logging for errors ? Please post the piece of IIS logging here to investigate your issue.

Also run get-activesyncvirtualdirectory |fl and post the results here.

thanks jveldh,

I ran the BPA it showed no errors at all, the event log likewise had nothing.

I ran get-activesyncvirtualdirectory |fl, but by the time I did that my curiosity had got the better of me and I believe I screwed up the permissions in IIS. At the moment I can not connect to OWA or activesync, and autodiscover hates me. I can still get my mail through outlook however, and the mail server still functions as I am receiving mail.

At this point I am going to wipe out IIS and reinstall it as well as Client Access, I will report back after.
