We are using Windows 2008 with Exchange 2007 with Roll-up 7 installed on the server.

I've come across this twice now in our envirnment. An email is sent from Outlook 2003 and when opened on a client with 2007 whatever the person wrote is unreadable, anything that was in the email before (if it's a reply) shows up fine. If the email is forwarded to someone using outlook 2003 it shows up fine. YOu can also highlight, copy and paste the garbled text into notepad and it turns out fine.

The only suggested fix i've found on google & microsoft was to make sure Exchange had Rollout 6 installed. Since we are on Rollout 7 the fix should have been applied already.

Anyone have any other ideas?

This should'nt be a server side problem as the email shows up fine in OL2003.

Seems like a bug in OL 2007.
What is the service pack that you have  for Outlook2007?

My outlook 2007 is full updated with the latest SP. I had same problem before installing SP though because I didn't have it installed originally. I was really hoping that it would be fixed after doing the SP install but no luck.

do you still experience the issue when outlook is in safe mode (open outlook by typing OUTLOOK.EXE /SAFE in a RUN window)?

Can you determine if this is happening to a specific user? Try this to find out...Setup a new profile for this user (who is currently seeing this issue on OL2k7) on Outlook 2003 and see if the problem occurs.

same problem in safe mode. It is not related to a specific user. I am the IT admin and it happened to one of my staff using Outlook 2007, he forwarded me the email and I see it the same as him, I forwarded it to someone using 2003 and it looks fine.

Does it matter if the message was sent as plain text, rich text or HTML or is this happening regardless of the message format?

I just tested this by forwarding it to myself. Rich Text and HTML the text is garbled, if I change it to plain text (and accept the warning that content will be converted to plain text) it then comes out ungarbled and I can actually read it.
