I really thanks everyone for making a great contribution in the work in a finest manner by giving the proper ideas in RPC over HTTP in a finest way. It is very good to get the better thoughts in a genuine way about the trouble shooting easily.

jveldh -> RE: Throubleshotting RPC over HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) (12.Nov.2009 2:42:16 PM)

Marco,

Let's first confirm it's not a firewall issue. Open the IIS management console and browse to the RPC virtual directory and search for the file rpcproxy.dll. Right click on it and select browse, it will ask to authenticate and when the authentication goes OK a white page will de displayed.

The 401 error means something goes wrong with the authentication, can you run the get-webservicesvirtualdirectory |fl and post the output here ?

mscipio -> RE: Throubleshotting RPC over HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) (13.Nov.2009 3:03:07 AM)

Hi,

No strange things to discover, found some other tips on internet:

Rpcdump /s mailbxoserver

Under ncacn_http, you should get entries like below:

192.168.1.2[6001] [a4f1db00-ca47-1067-b31f-00dd010662da] Exchange Server
STORE EMSMDB Interface :NOT_PINGED

[f5cc5a18-4264-101a-8c59-08002b2f8426] MS Exchange Directory NSPI Proxy
:NOT_PINGED

3. Run RPCcfg tool on the Client Access Server which enabled Outlook
Anywhere:

Rpccfg /hd

You should get entries like below:

Server Name Port Settings
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
MB 6001-6002 6004

mb.lab.com 6001-6002 6004

Can you try them and let me know what the result is?

jveldh -> RE: Throubleshotting RPC over HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) (14.Nov.2009 7:19:15 AM)

Hi,

OK thanks for the info next step will be to execute the following command from one if the clients which is outside the company:

RPCPing.exe –t ncacn_http –o RpcProxy=<the external host name of Outlook Anywhere> -u=10 –a connect –v 3 –E –R <HTTP Proxy Server or none> -P “username,domain,password” –H 1 –F 3 –b

This command uses basic authentication so if this works it might be an option to switch to basic authentication for outlook anywhere and check if everything works.

Besides this you might increase the logging level to troubleshoot this issue further. This can be done via Powershell:

Set-eventloglevel “MSExchangeSA\NSPI Proxy” –level expert
Set-eventloglevel “MSExchangeSA\RFR Interface” –level expert

Then try again and after that look for events in the event logs.

jveldh -> RE: Throubleshotting RPC over HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) (14.Nov.2009 3:57:58 PM)

Hi,

You should change it by using the set-outlookanywhere command, in this case something like this:

Set-OutlookAnywhere -Name Server01 -DefaultAuthenticationMethod Basic

See this technet article for more info:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124149.aspx

mscipio -> RE: Throubleshotting RPC over HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) (15.Nov.2009 5:45:26 AM)

Thanks for the help given to me.
But I still can not solve the problem.
So, in summary, again I enabled Outlook Anywhere with the command:

Enable-OutlookAnywhere -Server 'MAILSERVER' -ExternalHostname 'mail.scipioni.com' -DefaultAuthenticationMethod 'Basic' -SSLOffloading $false

AVVISO: Outlook Anywhere will be enabled on your Client Access server after a configuration period of approximately
fifteen minutes. To verify that Outlook Anywhere has been enabled, check the application event logon server MAILSERVER.
